KENNEBEC SAVINGS EMPLOYEES GIVE THEIR HEARTS AND TIME TO THE COMMUNITY
Kennebec Savings Bank was formally announced as the recipient of the Governor’s Exemplary Service award at the Hall of Flags ceremony last week. The Bank was chosen to receive the award by the Governor’s Service Awards Selection Committee.
The Governor’s Exemplary Service award is included within the Governor’s Volunteerism Awards. This is the twenty-second year the award has recognized individuals, organizations, and companies that value and are dedicated to volunteering efforts in the surrounding communities.
According to a letter composed by The Maine Commission for Community Service, Kennebec Savings Bank received this prestigious award “because of the wonderful recommendations of your peers and your exceptional service to your community.”
The Bank employees participate in a plethora of volunteering activities including assisting with the American Lung Association, United Way, the Kennebec Valley YMCA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kennebec Valley. The combined hours of volunteers totaled an impressive 3,500 hours per month throughout the 2008 year.
President and CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank, Mark Johnston, spoke about the level of dedication the Bank employees exhibit, “Not only are the Bank’s employees genuinely kind people who positively impact the customers we serve, but they also generously give their time in the community and truly want to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Data collected by the Corporation for National and Community Service over the past three years indicates Maine is the fifteenth U.S. state in terms of volunteering. Each year, over 356,000 Maine residents contribute an average of 44.5 million hours to various organizations. As an economic contribution, this accounts for $868 million every year.
