THE LOAN RANGERS RIDE AGAIN

JUNE 16, 2008: AUGUSTA, ME - On Father’s Day weekend, over 50 Kennebec Savings Bank employees and customers assisted the American Lung Association of Maine in Bethel by registering riders and participating in the Trek Across Maine. Now in its fifth year, the team known fondly as “The Loan Rangers of Kennebec Savings Bank,” raised approximately $37,000 and rode in the Trek, which started in the mountains at Sunday River in Bethel on Friday and concluded 183 miles and three days later in Belfast on the coast. At a formal event at Colby College on Saturday evening, the Lung Association recognized Kennebec Savings Bank and the Loan Rangers for being in the top three teams for fundraising (out of 148 teams) and in the top two teams for number of participants.

The team appropriately included several fathers with their child(ren). KSB’s company president, Mark Johnston rode with his 15-year old daughter Eliza. Joe Gould, the Bank’s maintenance services coordinator, rode towing his 10-year old son, Alex, and 8-year old daughter, Alyssa. Mark O’Brien of Augusta rode with his 16-year old son, Parker. Marc Turgeon, also of Augusta, rode with his grown twins, Brian and Sarah. And Marc Lacasse of Augusta Fuel Company, rode with his 15-year old son, Connor. Further, the team was supported by a contingent of Bank volunteers led by Mary Hammond, the Bank’s Human Resources VP, her husband Michael, and their 7-year old son Ethan, who received recognition by the Lung Association as one of the youngest volunteers at the Trek.

Mark L. Johnston, President & CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank (and a Loan Ranger) said of the event, “Family is a big part of what and who we are, so it is only fitting that so many families have made the Trek and the Loan Rangers of Kennebec Savings Bank part of their lives,” he said. “We live, work and play right here in the Kennebec Valley, and community service is a great way for us to give back and to teach our children to give back, too.” Mark added, “The American Lung Association of Maine is doing great things in this state, and we’re delighted to play a small part in helping with their efforts.” The Bank has provided volunteers for this event for the past eleven years, but this is a record year for the Bank being so heavily represented on the Trek itself, with its customers on the team, as well as several employees.
