Kennebec Savings Bank, in celebration of its 125th anniversary, produced A History of Kennebec Savings Bank for several reasons. First, we wanted to create a document that would commemorate the Bank's anniversary. Secondly, we believe that it is important to keep an accurate record of the Bank's history for future generations - bank trustees, corporators, employees and the community. Finally, Kennebec Savings Bank has always maintained a strong commitment to and support of the local community. It would be impossible to tell the Bank's history without describing Augusta's history, as they are inextricably tied together, therefore, we have included historical information about the greater Augusta area and the state to help describe the times in which Kennebec Savings Bank was established and grew.

As we began to research and gather information and materials for this booklet, we discovered that although a wealth of historical information exists, it is often in many different places. This booklet is our attempt to bring information sources together in one place, and to do so as accurately as possible.

To help the reader understand the story of Kennebec Savings Bank from 1870 to 1995, we have included several photographs to support the text. It is our wish that you will look upon this booklet as an interesting and useful document.
